ANNUAL MEMBER PICNIC DATE IS APPROACHING!
WHEN: Saturday October 11th, 2025 @ Noon
WHERE: At the sound front lot on Bay Dr at the end of West Avalon Dr, rain or shine.
Located on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina, Avalon Beach is the oldest community development in Kill Devil Hills. Our community, which runs from ocean to sound, is bordered to the north by Sportsman Drive and to the south by Durham Street (with the exception of homes located within the Kitty Hawk Bay Club).
ABIA, Inc. is a non-profit civic organization established to accept deed to three pieces of property comprised of one ocean front lot located on the south side of the Avalon Pier and two sound front lots – one at the western end of Avalon and the other at the end of Sportsman. The ocean front lot is reserved for members’ only parking while the sound lot at the end of the Avalon is available for all community members to enjoy. The lot at the end of Sportsman is inaccessible due to marsh and roadway easement.
Membership is open to all property owners within the above designated area for a nominal annual fee of $30. ABIA Members enjoy the benefits of one ocean front parking permit, one vote per household on Board representation and important Association matters not assigned to the Board, a great fall picnic and the satisfaction of actively contributing to the good of their full-time or vacation community!

A couple of sound property owners met with a state rep last week to discuss the nuisance aquatic grass buildup along the sound bulkheads. He was very informative and helpful. He said the primary sound grass is Widgeon which is not invasive. The invasive weed Milfoil is here too, but Widgeon is the long stringy grass that is building up along the bulkheads creating a stench, clogging crab traps and boat motors, and restricting fishing. He is pursuing possible solutions with the town and marine fisheries.
A FB group has been created to organize property owners, share concerns, information and ideas, and pursue state and local resources to assist in addressing this nuisance issue. Join the group here - fb.me/g/3jiTzviW4/3I326wCX ... See MoreSee Less

The state specialist for invasive aquatic weeds management program, Drew Gay, has agreed to meet with the community of concerned property owners regarding the summer build up of milfoil along the sound waterfronts and possible efforts to manage it. The meeting is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2 pm at Geof Fountain’s home at 2002 Bay Drive. Geof has some parking space or you can park at the public dock. Depending on the number of people that show up, we will meet on the deck or the back yard. If it is raining and we have more than ten, we can meet under the carport.
